For the year 2013/14, ANZ Smart Choice Super has performed particularly well, with nine of the 14 investment options outperforming the industry average* in their respective categories. 5 Lifestage investments (% return) 6.910.412.713.814.414.613.913.913.9184.108.40.206 1940s 1950s 1960s 1970s 1980s 1990s Annual Return Industry Average The 1950s, 1960s, 1980s and 1990s options all out-performed their respective industry averages for the year, with the 1950s option finishing top quartile (the highest 25%) in its class. 1970s and 1940s performed well and finished close to the average, but results were reflective of their overall more conservative mix compared to other investments in their class. In particular, International Equities and Global Property both returned top quartile results with 20.30% and 12.30% returns respectively. Conservative with one of the most defensive asset allocations in class (with 80% defensive assets), unsurprisingly lagged its peers following the strong equity markets of the last year. Investment performance – annual results update The last 12 months saw another good year for superannuation investment returns. Across the industry, the average superannuation return was 12.6% (based on a typical ‘Balanced’ option)* .
